Foxy Erin Simon Tells us h0w spring jewelry rocks!
Erin, it feels like spring can’t come soon enough in Northern Michigan! What are some
of your top spring pieces to wear once the temps start warming and the sun starts shining? We have a new designer we are featuring this year who uses mixed metals in geometric shapes that are meant to move as you do. There is this pair of earrings that are long rectangles that will be fun to wear out and about on a warm summer night. There are also some great gemstone bracelets that would be great to show off with a cute top and jeans.
What colors are HOT this spring and summer? Some of my favorite colors for spring come in the form of the stones Rose Quartz (pink), Larimar (blue) and Moonstone (milky white). They invoke a light and airy feeling and can be pair with so many things!
One of my personal favorite colors right now is BLUE, but not just any shade of blue will do… Can you tell us which blue stones are you favorite and why? I have always been drawn to blues. There are so many different shades but the colors in Larimar are perfect for spring. The stone reminds you of a gorgeous blue sky with big puffy clouds or crystal clear turquoise waters — just what we are all longing for! Blue T
opaz is another stone with a gorgeous blue color. It is popular year over year. The clear blue elements of Blue Topaz can create the perfect bling for spring!
What other jewelry trends are you seeing right now? Mixed metals were really big at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show this year. Designers are pairing sterling silver with certain parts of the piece tipped in gold. Black Rhodium was also a popular coating for sterling pieces. It gives a ring or pair of earrings that shiny black look. For something more rustic or antiqued, we saw a lot of oxidized sterling.
As a jewelry expert, can you tell us what makes a piece of jewelry quality and what to look for when searching for a special piece? We focus mainly on sterling silver jewelry here at Silver Fox, so we are looking for pieces with a silver content that is 92.5% or higher. We also inspect each piece to make sure it has quality craftsmanship. For us, it’s important that we’re working with reputable designers — people that we have developed relationships with over the years. Jewelry is such a personal purchase. As the saying goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Each person sees that beauty in different pieces and styles of jewelry. Often our customers have a propensity for certain gems or stones. Maybe a mother always wore amethyst so they are drawn to that stone, or they love the color green so they look for Peridot or Moldivite. We try to guide them toward that special piece that will be perfect just for them.
Your shop, Silver Fox Jewelry, is a very FOXY stop in Traverse City… Can you tell us more about it? Silver Fox Jewelry has been located in the Village at Grand Traverse Commons for over 10 years. My husband and I purchased the store about a year and a half ago. We have been trying to strike a balance between keeping certain elements that customers have loved and putting our own touch on the store. The shop really does have something for everyone. We have traditional, funky and more modern pieces. It’s been so much fun searching out new designers and styles to showcase in the store!
Erin, what is your personal style? On a typical day, I would say that my style is pretty simple. I wear daintier pieces. If I’m heading out with friends or on a date night, I usually wear one statement piece. I’ll either focus on some fabulous earrings or a funky ring. And I’m all about stacking bracelets — especially beaded bracelets. Those are usually a staple stacked up on my wrist.
How has this pandemic influenced you? Now that we’re spending so much time at home, I have started to miss my jewelry. My kids make fun of me, but I will sometimes come down all decked out in my favorite pieces. Just because we have nowhere to go right now, doesn’t mean you can’t look fabulous at home. 🙂
