In search of the Perfect Christmas Tree…

We are going on a tree hunt! Last weekend my family and I went in search of the best Christmas tree in Northern Michigan. Our adventure lead us to find some adorable animals (see pictures below.)  we ended up finding our dream tree at the Robinson Family Christmas Tree Farm in Traverse City. my family all agreed, we found the best family Christmas tree in all of Michigan! You can pick from pre-chopped trees or cut down your own. They will help you strap it to your car roof, and hand your kids a cookie. So, if you are looking to find a festive tree farm look no further than the Robinson Family Christmas Tree Farm: 6777 Herkner Rd, Traverse City, MI 49685

Adore Boutique: Traverse City, MI

Last week I stopped by the new Adore Boutique in Traverse City and found cozy sweaters, leggings, and some gorgeous beauty products! The remodeled and rebranded shop is filled with women’s brands that we all love including my personal favorite yoga brand: Beyond Yoga! I was SO excited to see this brand carried locally at a Traverse City boutique! Their super-soft fabric and amazing fit makes them my go-to legging year round. A couple other great brands Adore carries are Cosabella and Lollia. In addition to seasonal items the store is stocked with high-end fashion basics, think stretchy tank tops and leggings that you wear practically everyday. Check out my pictures below to see some of the items they have in stock November 2020- Just in time for holiday shopping! Remember to support local as much as possible this time of year (and always), the money you spend goes directly back into our community!

The streets are painted RAINBOW in downtown Traverse City– And it is super fun! Yesterday I was blessed with a child free hour to walk around, so I popped in a couple store (with my mask) and it made me remember why our town is so special. We have so many small businesses, shops, restaurants, and multiple places to take Instagram worthy pictures! And now, TC’s main avenue, Front Street is a wider place to visit because between Park Street and Union Street is now closed to cars and open to pedestrians. This innovative change began Monday, June 22nd and is intended to give more room to enjoy downtown while social distancing. In addition, State Street (between Park Street and Union Street ) has transformed from a one-way street to a two-way street. Side note, Front Street is a great spot to take a colorful Summer 2020 Selfie with your mask, because who knows if they will do this again next year… but hopefully the city will decide to make it a permanent feature! To everyone who visits, please stay safe and healthy during this unique and ever-changing summer of 2020. Many stores are selling unique face masks that are locally made and locally made hand sanitizer, so don’t forget to support local while you stay safe! Don Orr Ski N’ Beach Haus

Did you know you can find loads of summer fun at Don Orr Sk N’ Beach Haus in TC? It has way more than just snow skis…

Those of us who spend our winters in Northern Michigan know Don Orr as a great place to purchase ski apparel and equipment, but it is way more than just a winter destination…During summer months Don Orr turns into a tiki bar boutique filled with beach gear, apparel, swimsuits floats, sandals, sunglasses, and so much more! The locally owned store has a good selection of life jackets and sunglasses (see pictures below) and sell my favorite brand of sunscreen: Sun Bum! They have a great selection of local apparel brands including M-22, Love, My Michigan Roots and 45th Parallel. Visiting from out of town? You can rent a huge yellow lily pad for hours of fun to play on the water! Take it to a beach or show it on the back of a boat for floating fun in the middle of the lake. Share Some Local Love
for #upnorth #traversecity #northernmichigan

With all that is going on in the world and in our local communities, the push to support local is more needed than ever! I am a huge advocate for shopping small and local. The good news is that there are SO MANY great ways to support local right now: Consider buying your groceries from a local store instead of a big box grocer or online supply. The same goes for household supplies.

For those that want to splurge, order take-out food once a week from a local restaurant that is providing curbside service. Bagels from the NEW Bubbies Bagels @bubbiesbagels , Soup from 9 Bean Rows in Suttons Bay @9beanrows , Vietnamese Dinner from The Good Bowl Eatery @goodbowleatery , dinner deliciousness from The Cooks House @cookshouse or Alliance  @foodforalliance Looking for more casual take-out option? Try the mouth-watering burgers from Slabtown Burgers @slabtownburgers They are one of my favorites and have the option of a low carb bun, which actually tastes good! #eatlocal #traversecitytakeout

Mother’s Day is just around the corner! So why not buy a Mother’s Day gift from a local boutique– A cute bag from Cherry Hill Boutique @cherryhillboutiquetc or The Exchange @theexchangeboutiquemi , a necklace from @beckythatcherdesigns  or Silver Fox Jewelry @silverfoxjewelrytc or give her your favorite book from @brilliantbookstc . West Bay Handmade @westbayhandmade in #TraverseCity carries ALL local artisans and is all about #supportinglocalmakers They have curbside pick-up! A few of their local makers include: @creativebabybook @lakesoapco @herbnmeds @3moonknits @foxnbun @venturingheadbandco @sugarnsnailstoys @kehrerberrycrafts  I also LOVE Northern Nail Polish @northernnailpollish its local, non-toxic, and has bright colors for spring!

You can send a care package full of yummy kitchen goodness and oils from Fustini’s @fustinis and throw in some wine from any of our great area wineries! Here are a few: Bonobo Winery @bonobowinery , Mari Vineyards @marivineyards , and Bowers Harbor Vineyards @bowersharborvineyards Another idea is to purchase gift certificates to give for future use when Stay-at-Home orders are removed!

For those that are looking to do, even more, consider donating to local support efforts. Here are a few: The Traverse City Downtown Development Authority (DDA) @downtown_tc “Buy Local, Give Local Fund,” The Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation, and The Good Bowl’s Hospitality Relief Fund. And there are many more…

But, even more important is the fact that you can support locals without spending a dime…. Follow and support your favorite local businesses on social media- no purchase necessary! Comment and share their posts- this means a lot to small local businesses and organizations!  Here are a few more local social media tags that are fun to follow: The State Theatre and Bijou by the Bay @stateandbijou , Sweet Pea Baby Boutique @sweetpeatc , Crooked Tree Arts Center @Crookedtreetraversecity , The National Writers Series @National_writers_series , Modus45 @modus45 and just about a million more. On yes, and me, on Instagram @StylishUpNorth – I ALWAY appreciate your shares, comments, and love! As always, thanks for supporting local in Northern Michigan!  #upnorthlove
